Weekend travels

Spent the weekend in Bellingham. Went up for a retirement dinner for one of my drivers but also got a nice getaway with Diane. Had to drive on two detours for I-5 because of closures of the freeway. The first was in Clark County where they were lifting 165 foot long girders over the freeway for a new interchange. The second was in Mt. Vernon, WA because of a bridge collapse. So after a 5 1/2 hour drive we arrived to a pretty comfortable bed at our hotel.

After a rest and a walk we went to dinner in Everson, WA. Ate at Herb Nieman's Schnitzel and Steak House. This was a great place. The food was excellent. There were about 16 people there for our dinner and we had a great time. I'll be returning to eat there when I make my periodic visits to Bellingham on business.

On Sunday we headed home and instead of taking the freeway south out of Bellingham, we headed south on Chuckanut Drive along Bellingham Bay.

We stopped a couple of places to enjoy the view. This is a curvy, hilly and slow drive. At some of the boat ramps they have free life jackets for people to use.

After some more stops to look at the bay, we rejoined the freeway at Mt. Vernon and headed south to Portland.
