Moving a warehouse

Last weekend our largest customer, Land O' Lakes Purina Feed,  moved their warehouse to a larger facility. This move came after a couple of months of planning involving the production end of the business, the distribution center, customer service and our part, transportation. We needed to move about 160 truckloads on Saturday and Sunday. Well we picked the wettest, nastiest weekend in a couple years to make the move. About 4 inches of rain fell over the weekend and the winds gusted to 45 miles an hour. It was a miserable weekend to work outside but in spite of the challenges, our team did a fantastic job and finished by 3 pm on Sunday afternoon. This is what the old warehouse looked liked Sunday afternoon.

At the new warehouse everything was put into it's row and proper inventory slot. We used two teams to manage the move, one at each warehouse. 3 drivers moved all the loads. At each warehouse 1 person worked the inside to release trailers that were loaded or empty, 1 worked the outside dock to direct the drivers into the proper door, help them unhook and pick up the next trailer. The drivers rarely had to get out of their tractors and were able to maximize their time driving. Radio communication kept us all in touch. Here is how many forklifts they were using to unload at the new warehouse.

A long weekend but successful one. The Ruan team did a fantastic job meeting our customer's needs.

GO TEAM GO!!!
