Thanksgiving is here. A time of food, family and a time to reflect on the blessings of the year. Along with being thankful for a good job, a house to live in, plenty of food on the table and a comfortable life, I have additional reasons to be grateful this year. My cancer surgery looks to be successful. Time will tell for sure, but everything went as expected and I'm looking forward to a cancer free future.
It did cause me to reflect and appreciate my family more than I had before. Diane stayed with me through the surgery and hospital stay, taking care of me and helping me heal faster and get back on my feet sooner. Her care and concern has definitely got me back to work and up to my old activity levels. My siblings all pitched in to make sure I had books to read to keep me occupied and visited while I was convalescing. My kids texted, called and visited to show their love and concern. I am truly blessed.
This has also made me appreciate the material things I have. A comfortable house to heal in, good health insurance and a job to go back to at the end of the surgery. Sometimes your doctor gets to sound like a broken record. Lose some weight, quit smoking cigars, reduce sodium to lower your blood pressure. But they were paying attention and spotted the changes from my previous physicals and ordered the tests to catch my prostate cancer early and responded quickly. I'm thankful for that.
Love to all my family.
