I started running last weekend after a couple of months off following surgery. I had tried about 6 weeks afterwards, which was when the doctor had cleared me to try. It hurt like hell so I decided to wait while longer. So last weekend I decided I would go for broke and do 3 miles. Walk or run but do the 3 miles, running as much of it as I could. So the first run was 3.1 miles. Took about 37 minutes and felt like I had run 20. I rested for 2 hours after the run. Sunday I ran another 3.1 miles went about the same for time but wasn't quite as tired when I finished. But it was a start and is getting me back into my running program. My first race will be the Shamrock Run here in Portland in March. not sure what distance I'll run but hoping I can train up to the 15K one. The picture below is after finishing it last year.
The picture below is at after finishing the City of Trees marathon in Boise, three weeks before my prostate surgery. I plan on doing a marathon this fall if my health allows.
It feels good to get out and run again. For awhile I didn't think I would have the energy to run. It's been hard just doing daily chores and working a full day. but as my strength returns it helps to get out and run, feel the sweat and know I'll get stronger the more I do it.
