Pretty easy to see how it earned its name. Captain James Cook named it because of the weather, gusty winds and rain, the day he spotted it. It was the first place Cook named in the Northwest on his exploration of the North Pacific. The fog was pretty thick the afternoon we visited.
The gift shop at the top of the Cape has got a wide range of merchandise from art work to a pirate fortuneteller to the bags of polished rocks you can buy at every gift shop on the Oregon Coast.
We went down a little lower to Otter Crest for chowder and as it turned out, a much better view.
Still a little hazy, but out of the cloud that had settled over the top of the Cape. A little more activity down lower, too. Mo's West was pretty busy but we got in for lunch. This is the smallest Mo's of the 6 along the coast.
Even the squirrel got some lunch!
Out on the ocean there was a group of surfers waiting for a big wave. The ocean was dead calm and I think they spent most of the day floating around and talking.
We had a great drive and enjoyed the view.
