We went on our first camping trip of the year last weekend. We went to Tumalo State Park near Bend. We went to the east side of the Cascades in hopes of dry weather. Camping in Western Oregon in the spring can be a wet proposition. Well we got our dry weather, a little cold, but dry.
Our trailer keeps us pretty warm and dry. Our first night out we usually have hot dogs roasted over the campfire and chili. This Friday was no exception. After setting up camp we walked around the campground, got a fire going and relaxed.
On Saturday we went to Tumalo Falls which was about 15 miles from our campground. We hiked up to the top of the falls but with the wind blowing and temps in the 40's we didn't stay out long. We did take a hike up the Deschutes from the campground in the afternoon.
The Deschutes runs from the high Cascades and empties into the Columbia. We've camped at the upper end of it and down where it meets the Columbia. Up here it's a smaller river with lots of rapids. After the hike it was back to camp to do what we do best when camping. A good book, a beverage and some snacks make for good relaxation.
