Things you don't see much anymore.

Haven't got a receipt like this in a long time. We went to pick up our son's girlfriends car at the shop and they ran it through an imprint machine instead of an online terminal. It's probably been 10 years since I've seen one of these or received one as a receipt. 

Weekend get together

We got together this last weekend in July to meet with friends that my brother and I had lived with or, in Kirk's case, rowed with at Oregon State in the mid seventies. After about 45 days without rain in Portland of course it rained that weekend. The weather didn't stop us from having a barbecue and enjoying an afternoon of remembering and catching up.  

Neighborhood changes

There was a house here last weekend when we walked down to get cat food. We live in an older neighborhood that is going through a lot of change. Most of the old houses are being redone and returned to their former glory. When they tear them down we usually get a three story duplex on the lot. It's part of Portland's plan to increase density in the inner city neighborhoods. Most of them don't fit in very well.

Lovejoy Fountain

This is the Lovejoy Fountain in SW Portland. We went by it on our walk after dinner tonight. It's one of my favorite fountains in Portland. The Keller Fountain down by the Auditorium is similar with a very outdoorsy feel. Portland got both these fountains in the 70's. you can climb on and around both of them. 

Dreamer

This is a statue in Pettygrove Park in Portland. We had never seen it or the park even though it is only a couple of blocks from where we eat pizza at least one night a week. After we eat, we walk around downtown for a while before heading home. Usually its up through the PSU campus but tonight we headed east and found this. 

Neither Diane or I could quite figure out why it's called "Dreamer" but it was placed there in the 60's so that might be a sufficient explanation. 

This park was created in one of the first urban renewal districts in Portland and is tucked in between a bunch of high rise apartment buildings. One block square, it is a green, grassy oasis in the concrete of downtown Portland.
